Nintendo has provided more details on the two expansion packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The first pack, called The Master Trials, will be released in the summer, while the as-yet-untitled second pack will be released in the fall.
The Master Trials contains two new gameplay modes, plus some additional weapons and quality of life improvements. The Trial of the Sword is a series of around 45 rooms that players must conquer one-by-one. By completing the challenge, Link’s Master Sword will awaken permanently and stay in its powered-up state for the remainder of the game.
A new Hard Mode features enemies that recover health over time and have a higher rank than those in normal mode. Enemies will also be more alert so Link will have to up his stealth game to get the jump on them.
Hero’s Path Mode tracks Link’s movement around the map for the player’s last 200 hours of playtime. This will work retroactively, so if you’re missing some shrines you can check out the map and explore those previously untouched locations.
A new treasure chest containing a Travel Medallion will also be added to the game. The Travel Medallion lets players create a temporary new travel point on the map for Link to use for fast travel. Only one travel point can be created at a time.
The Korok Mask will help players find those illusive Korok Seeds by shaking when one is nearby. Finally, the eight pieces of new equipment will be themed after games and characters from the Zelda series, such as Midna, Tingle, Phantom, and Majora’s Mask.
The two expansions must be purchased together at a price of $19.99.
